I was always told that they would be eliminated. Of course, how can a perfect person sin?

Valentines, Waterworks, and such...
by jeanniebeanz inwell, it?s valentines day and our 7th anniversary and it?s got me thinking.
many of the issues that couples have are over the volatile nature of a woman?s emotions, namely mine.
normally, if a man says something and it can have two meanings, he meant the benign thing, and the woman takes the negative, hurtful, skeptical, or obnoxious thing.. why is that?.

I don't know why women cry so often, but I will say "don't sweat it". We love you and if not for women the world would be a dreary, although much drier, place to live.

Where is their Love?
by Sadie5 ina couple of days ago i ran into a jw at my job at walmart.
she is a single lady around 50 years old and she looked terrible.
i asked how she was,(she always talks to me) and she related how she had lost her job and had to work two low paying jobs.

They only seem to love the "beautiful" people...the ones that pioneer or have money or are part of the clique.
This is a common thing among jw's.Their love is "conditional",therefore they always have an excuse, like"well maybe if so-and-so went out in service more jehovah would bless her".
The people that need love the most are in no shape to go out preachin'. This mentality enables the JWs to be ice cold toward whomever they choose. A little active compassion goes a long way with people going through bad times. I would imagine that poor lady in Walmart would have looked a lot better had she been taken care of by her "shepherds". It was really sweet to hear about that boy giving up his week's allowance. What a great lesson to learn early in life.

Are the magazines losing their appeal?
by truthseeker indo you think the mags are losing their appeal at the doors these days?.
i mean, if you have the internet and wanted to learn about a particular beetle, recipe or how to cook rice, you could look it up on the web right?.
if you wanted to learn about brightly colored birds and fish, you could go to google.com.

Generally, only a JW or someone that lives in a world of worry would find the mags appealing, judging by the usual cover articles. They tend to focus on a disease, a negative human behavior, recent bad news, the supposed faults of other beliefs, etc. I usually felt bad bringing these negative ideas to people on their personal time.

What's the worst Witness meeting of the week?
by inquirer in(this question does not include the field service one.
the little introduction and then the preaching after it.
when i went, i thought the most useless meeting was that kingdom ministry meeting.

For me it was the book study, especially the Isaiah books. People talk about the JWs listening to the same things over and over, but this study was almost literally the same every week. Hey, let's breakdown Isaiah verse by verse and apply half of it to 1919 Bible Students and apply the other half to seeing the whole world destroyed. Sound good? Oh, by the way, you'll be studying it in a poorly lit house without A/C in the middle of nowhere.

Has anyone got anything positive from being a JW?
by diamondblue1974 in.
i hear and read alot about peoples experiences and some are pretty horrendous....does anyone actually feel they have benefited from being a jw at least in one way or another...me personally i feel i benefited from the ministry school as public speaking is part of my job and has definately improved career prospects?.

Same here. Also going door to door with a message that no one wants to hear builds character and makes it easier to talk to strangers in the real world.

by Lostreality inokay, i got a bike a couple days ago to ride to work.

Riding against the wind will make you a much stronger rider. It sucks at first, but stick with it and you will see positive results. My favorite rides are the ones when the trip out is into a strong headwind and then the ride back is a superfast and quiet cruise thanks to a strong tailwind. Have fun.

Is life any better now?
by onacruse inrecent conversations and threads prompt me to ask these questions:.
have humans evolved/developed/learned beyond what we were several thousand years ago?.
do you think life, in general, is better now?.

I would say life was more fulfilling in the past, in that we were much closer to our true nature. There was no media cramming ideas into our heads and coercing us to amass material posessions. We toiled directly for the benefit of those we loved, not for some corporate machine that dispenses paychecks on Friday. And all that work was done with the sights and sounds and smells of nature to inspire us, the ultimate soundtrack IMO. Sure, life was physically demanding and dangerous, but that was all we had to compare it to anyway. It just seems to me that living in sync with the earth and having lots of time for deep thinking would lead to a spiritual and deeply grateful existence.

Michael Jackson biography on cable VH1
by franklin J ini caught the biography while flipping channels last nite and was surprised how much air time was given to the teachings of jehovahs witnesses and speculation on how it may have impacted the later decisions michael jackson made in his life.
it portrayed jackson the child as a victim of --not only the rigid teachings of jehovahs witnesses; also an abusive father ; dysfunctional family and the demanding rigors of a successful child performer; no childhood at all.
bill bowen was interviewd and the life of a dedicated jw was accurately portrayed.

I was surprised too at how much time was spent on the JW upbringing. The narrative was a little odd, IMO, in that it used phrases like "breaking Jehovah's law" or "displeasing Jehovah" directly, as if the narrator was talking to another JW. All in all, it was a very accurate portrayal of the realities of growing up in the org. Rest assured the faithful will accuse VH1 of being biased or of spewing lies and that this documentary shows how close the End is, but it was, for the most part, fair journalism.
